Best products for knee sprains
The following products are used as part of a full rehabilitation program for knee ligament sprains.
Cold therapy & compression
Immediate first aid for knee sprains is to apply the PRICE principles of protection, rest, ice, compression and elevation. The Large Hot & Cold Wrap is one of the best products for knee sprains. It combines cold gel packs with an elastic compression wrap.
Apply cold for 10 to 15 minutes every couple of hours in the early stages. Reduce frequency as your pain and swelling reduces.
Knee supports
The best knee support product for a sprain or ligament injury is a hinged knee brace/support. The Ultimate Compression Hinged Knee Support provides elastic compression making it comfortable to wear for longer periods of time. It also has solid metal stays at the side to prevent lateral movement and protect the injured ligament.
If you are in the later stages of rehabilitation, or do not need that level of support then we recommend the Advanced Compression Knee Support. It also has elastic compression but with additional elastic cross over straps. This allows more movement than a hinged knee brace and is more suitable for playing sport. In particular, contact sports as there are no solid metal parts.
The basic Elastic Knee Support is ideal for knee sprains immediately following injury to help reduce swelling as part of the PRICE principles. However, it does not provide lateral support so once you are walking around you may be better off with a higher level knee support.
Cold gel
Cold gel helps reduce pain and inflammation and can be applied throughout the day. It should not replace a cold therapy compression wrap, but is especially useful if you are at work for example and do not have access to ice/cold therapy.
Foam roller
Although not directly relevant as one of our best products for knee sprains, a foam roller is important for keeping muscles in good condition (when pain allows). If you are unable to exercise and stretch as you normally would, you may be able to use a foam roller regularly.
