What is an Achilles tendon support suitable for?
Achilles tendon supports help treat Achilles tendonitis or Achilles tendinopathy. Achilles tendonitis is inflammation of the Achilles tendon. However, most long term chronic cases of Achilles pain tend not be from acute inflammation.
The more common cause is wear and tear or degeneration. Therefore, the term tendinopathy is probably a more accurate way of describing the injury.
How does it work?
Achilles supports have a strap which goes around your ankle. A soft pad applies gentle pressure onto the tendon over the painful area. As a result, the strap changes how forces transmit through the Achilles tendon. This reduces the strain on the painful part of the tendon, allowing it to heal.
Achilles sleeve vs strap
The Advanced Ultimate Compression Achilles Support is an elastic compression sleeve which an addition achilles strap. This is deal if you want additional support and compression for your ankle, or if you have significant swelling.
The Achilles Tendon Support is a simple but effective strap which goes around your ankle. This is ideal for longer term chronic cases, where you do not want additional ankle support.
Plantar fasciitis sock
The Plantar Fascia sock is worn overnight and prevents the Calf muscles from tightening up. Over time it helps reduce the strain on the Achilles tendon.
Gel Heel Pad
Although not strictly and Achilles tendon support it does support the tendon by raising your heel slightly. As a result, your calf muscles shorten and place less strain on the Achilles tendon.
Great as a short term measure whilst recovering from Achilles tendonitis.
