What is the best knee support for running?

Choosing the best knee support for running depends on how much support you need and whether you're dealing with a specific injury or just want extra confidence on your runs.

For most runners, the ideal knee support offers a balance of stability and freedom of movement. Too much support can feel restrictive, while too little may not give you the protection you need.

General Running Support (No Specific Injury)

If you’re running pain-free but want light support and reassurance, go for an elastic compression knee support.

  • Lightweight and breathable
  • Provides gentle, even support
  • Won’t restrict movement
  • Ideal for mild discomfort, fatigue, or early-stage tendon issues

Best for: everyday running, prevention, and confidence

Extra Warmth & Moderate Support

If your knee feels better with warmth, for example if you have a long term tendon injury, or you want a bit more stability then go for the Wraparound Neoprene Knee Support.

  • Thicker material for added support
  • Retains heat to keep joints and tendons warm
  • Adjustable fit

Best for: knee joint stiffness and tendon irritation/injuries.

Higher Support for Heavier Runners

If you need more structure and stability for example if you have had ligament injuries in the past, go for the Advanced Compression Knee Support.

  • Added adjustable straps for extra support
  • Helps stabilise the joint during impact
  • Still allows good movement

Best for: heavier runners or those needing extra reinforcement

Targeted Supports for Specific Running Injuries

If you are recovering from or need to help prevent specific injuries, we recommend the following:

Iliotibial Band (ITB) Syndrome

ITB syndrome causes pain on the outside of the knee. It often comes on at a specific time on a run and eases with rest. The ITB Strap is designed specifically for this injury. It is worn just above the knee, applying pressure to the tendon. Therefore, changing the way forces transmit through the tendon, allowing it to recover.

Patellar Tendon Pain

Pain at the front of the knee (below the kneecap). An overuse injury common in running and sports involving jumping. A Patella Tendon Strap works be applying pressure to the tendon, reducing load and discomfort. Best for: patellar tendinopathy / Osgood-Schlatter

Runner’s Knee (Patellofemoral Pain)

Pain around or behind the kneecap. The Runner’s Knee Strap helps guide proper kneecap movement, reducing irritation under the patella. It is also suitable as an Iliotibial band strap. Best for: kneecap tracking issues and general front knee pain.
